Core Sections (AUD, FAR, REG)

Core sections use continuous testing with scores released every 2-3 weeks on a rolling basis. Dates are based on when AICPA receives your exam file from Prometric, not when you sat.

The AICPA published the schedule for the new technology delivery platform on August 31, 2026. From July 2027 the Core schedule lists testing date ranges instead of file receipt cutoffs, with one target release date per range, so Core releases go from sixteen a year to four. The AICPA has not stated whether Core scheduling stays open year-round after the transition. All dates are AICPA targets and subject to change.

Discipline Sections (BAR, ISC, TCP)

Discipline sections are only available during a set window each quarter, the first month of the quarter in every window through Q2 2027 and again from Q4 2027. The Q3 2027 window runs July 12 to August 12 because of the platform transition. Scores release approximately 6-7 weeks after the testing window closes.

Score Validity: 30-Month Rolling Window

Once you pass a section, that credit is valid for 30 months. You must pass all remaining sections before your earliest credit expires, or it rolls off and you must retake that section.

What time are CPA exam scores released?

Scores are typically posted by midnight ET on the target release date. Many candidates report seeing scores as early as 8:00 PM ET the evening before. Your state board may require additional processing time after NASBA releases scores.

Why are Discipline section scores released later?

Discipline sections (BAR, ISC, TCP) are only offered during the first month of each quarter. The 6-7 week delay allows AICPA to perform standard-setting analysis on the exam data before releasing scores.

How long are passing scores valid?

Passing scores are valid for 30 months from the date the score is released. You must pass all four sections (3 Core + 1 Discipline) within this window. If a credit expires, you must retake that section.

Where can I check my CPA exam score?

Log in to your NASBA CPA Candidate Account at nasba.org. Some state boards also post scores directly on their websites. You will not receive scores by email or phone.

What happens during the blackout periods?

Brief blackout periods of 3-5 days occur between score release cycles for scoring, quality control, and system maintenance. During blackout periods, you cannot schedule Core section exams at Prometric for those specific dates.

When are CPA Exam scores released?

Core section scores (AUD, FAR, REG) release on target dates published by the AICPA, currently sixteen a year. Your score lands on the first target date after the cutoff your exam data file met, which is usually one to three weeks after you test. Discipline section scores (BAR, ISC, TCP) release once per quarterly testing window, roughly six to seven weeks after the window closes.

How do I work out when my own score arrives?

Find the first file receipt cutoff on or after your exam date in the Core table above, then read across to the target release date. An exam taken just after a cutoff waits for the following one, which is why two exams a few days apart can have score dates two weeks apart. Discipline candidates read the release date for the window they tested in.

What are the CPA Exam testing windows?

Core sections are continuously testable through June 2027, so you can schedule AUD, FAR or REG on most days a Prometric center is open. Discipline sections are limited to a set window each quarter, which is the first month of the quarter. From July 2027 the AICPA publishes Core dates as testing ranges rather than rolling cutoffs.

What changes for score releases in July 2027?

The AICPA has said the exam moves to a new technology delivery platform in July 2027, and the published schedule changes with it. Core score releases drop from sixteen a year to four, each covering a testing date range. A Core exam taken on July 12, 2027 targets a score on October 19, 2027. The AICPA has not published guidance on scheduling availability after the transition.

How long do passing CPA Exam scores stay valid?

NASBA amended Uniform Accountancy Act Model Rule 5-7 in April 2023 to give candidates a rolling 30 months to pass the remaining sections once they pass their first. States adopt that rule individually rather than automatically, so confirm the window your own board of accountancy applies.
